About June

JUNE LEE is an up-and-coming young violinist based in Montreal, Canada. As a musician and artist, Jueun strives to bring life to every note she plays. Her goal is to inspire the audience to imagine vividly as a result of the music they hear. She draws inspiration from a variety of styles and cultures, creating a compelling musical experience.

Originally from Seoul, South Korea, she made her soloist debut at the age of 13 when she performed the Bruch Violin Concerto with the Paju Symphony Orchestra. In 2022, she won the Second Prize of $15,000 at the Golden Violin Competition of McGill University. In April 2023, she has been invited to participate in the International Musicians Seminar at Prussia Cove, UK, as a member of the violin class of Gerhard Schulz, from the world-famous Alban Berg Quartet. In past years, she has attended many festivals as a fellow, such as Encore Chamber Music Institute, Heifetz International Music Institute and Sarasota Music Festival.

 As a chamber musician, in 2020 she won the Grand Prize and First Prize at the Coltman Chamber Competition as a member of the Elless Quartet. In 2017, her previous string quartet won the Bronze Medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Competition. She has performed with such renowned artists as Jaime Laredo, Sharon Robinson, Jinjoo Cho, Victor Fournelle-Blain, Si-Yan Li, Matthew Jones, and members of the Pacifica and Verona quartets. She has also played in many masterclasses with artists such as Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Pamela Frank, Paul Kantor, Arnold Steinhardt, and members of the Signum Quartet, Miami Quartet, Emerson Quartet, Dover Quartet, Borromeo Quartet and Calidore Quartet.

June is currently a graduate student at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music, where she is a recipient of the Schulich Graduate Fellowship and studies violin with Jinjoo Cho. Previously, she studied with Jaime Laredo and Jan Sloman at the Cleveland Institute of Music, and with Margaret Batjer at the Colburn Music Academy.
