About June

June Lee, known for her fearless expression and radiant energy, is a Korean violinist currently based in Montreal, Canada. She integrates her full cultural identity into her music, drawing inspiration from art, science, dance, nature, and human emotions, striving to create a vivid and inclusive musical story. She also uses her personal experiences to bring music that is honest and sincere, believing that genuine and heartfelt art is what truly resonates with audiences.

June's musical journey is marked by a series of accomplishments. In 2025, she will compete as a quarterfinalist in the upcoming Dallas International Violin Competition and recently won the Bronze Medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition as a member of Trio Timia. In 2023, she won Second Prize at the Schulich Golden Violin Competition and performed Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto as soloist with the Paju Philharmonic Orchestra in South Korea. That same year, she joined the 2023–24 Bourgie Hall Mentorship Program with Daniel Hope. Earlier, she received the Anna Y. Tringas Award for Violin and won Second Prize at the Mary Lane Memorial Violin Competition in 2021. In 2020, she was a finalist in the Ronald Sachs International Music Competition String Division.

Beyond North America, June served as Assistant Concertmaster for a European touring orchestra, performing alongside her all-time favorite musician, Martha Argerich. She has participated in numerous festivals and masterclasses, continuously seeking diverse cultural and musical experiences to find her most sincere voice in music. Her festival appearances include IMS Prussia Cove (UK) with Gerhard Schulz; Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance with Steven Isserlis; the Schiermonnikoog Festival (Netherlands) with Marc Danel and Philippe Graffin; the Trondheim String Quartet Academy (Norway); MISQA with members of the Alban Berg Quartet; as well as the Encore Chamber Music Institute, Toronto Summer Music Festival, Heifetz International Music Institute, and Sarasota Music Festival. In August 2025, her ensemble Trio Timia will attend Musique à Flaine (France) with members of the Ysaÿe Quartet.

Her recent performances include the Mendelssohn and Enescu Octets with Mihaela Martin, Mathieu Herzog (founding member of Ebene Quartet), Jinjoo Cho, Brannon Cho, and Frans Helmerson at the 2024 Encore Chamber Music Institute, a Musical Chairs chamber performance with Cibrán Sierra, and Brahms’s Viola Quintet with Hélène Clément at Trondheim String Quartet Academy.

June recently earned an Artistic Diploma, having studied violin under Jinjoo Cho at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music. Previously, she studied with Jaime Laredo and Jan Sloman at the Cleveland Institute of Music, and with Margaret Batjer at the Colburn Music Academy.
